Dr. Richard Ressler is a Hurst Senior Professorial Lecturer in American University’s Math and Statistics department. He joined the faculty in 2019 and serves as an Associate Director of the Data Science programs.
Prior to joining academia, Richard served for over 40 years as a senior operations research analyst and leader in industry and the military. With a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Operations Research, his work focused on modeling and simulation programs and developing strategies and leading-edge technology solutions for diverse clients. His research interest is in the application of responsible data science methods.
His courses cover statistical programming, data science, machine learning, a first-year student course he designed called “Big Data, Bias, and Justice for All”, and the capstone course for the masters-degree in data science. Throughout his teaching he enjoys helping students become competent, confident, and creative data scientists.
